An ASU visit can mean many different things: helping someone move in, attending a ceremony, spending a weekend together, or simply getting to know the place that has become part of their life. Start with the reason for the visit, then leave room for the family time around it.
Confirm the campus and the official details
Make sure you know which campus and building you need. A general plan to visit ASU is not enough to choose parking, estimate travel, or decide where to meet. Ask your student to share the exact location and any instructions they have received.
ASU Family is a useful official starting point for family resources. For move-in, ceremonies, or an organized event, check the current instructions for that specific occasion. Do not rely on a previous year’s date or timetable.
Keep the first evening flexible
Travel and campus logistics can take longer than expected. If you are arriving on the same day as an important event, leave enough room for delays and remember that The Walcott’s check-in begins at 3 p.m. Early check-in needs advance confirmation.
A meal at the house can be easier than gathering everyone at a restaurant at a fixed time. Have a look at the kitchen and shared spaces if your family likes somewhere to regroup between activities.
Plan a role for everyone in the group
Younger siblings may not want to spend the whole day on campus. Grandparents may prefer a shorter outing and a longer meal together. Agree on which parts of the day everyone wants to attend, and which can be optional.
A nearby park visit or an indoor outing can give the rest of the family something to do while a student handles their own appointments. Our Tempe guide offers a few starting points. Check transport before splitting the group.
Understand the difference between a stay and an event
The Walcott accommodates up to ten overnight guests. It is a place to stay with your family, with no parties or events permitted. If your plans include visitors who are not staying overnight, ask the hosts first rather than assuming the accommodation booking covers a gathering.
Quiet hours begin at 10 p.m., including the pool and outdoor spaces. Sharing that information with everyone before the trip helps the visit go smoothly.
Save a little time that is not scheduled
A coffee at the kitchen table, a walk, or a chance to hear about everyday life can be as worthwhile as the main event. Leave room for your student’s own plans too. A home base works best when it gives people options, not another obligation.
